Trusting God in Times of Worry

"Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear..." Luke 12:22-34

Sometimes we worry because we stop trusting God and start treating the problem on our own. We pray that God helps us find a way when by faith we change heart posture and pray that God helps us follow the way.

"O ye of little faith." Indeed we are. Lets not pretend or gloss over the innermost tremors and thoughts of our hearts asking questions such as: "Will God do it?" "Will He come through for me?" "I've seen Him do it for others but I doubt He will for me." "I'm just going to pray but I don't know…"

Oftentimes, our hearts are set on the problem. We wake up thinking about the problem. We go to bed thinking about the problem. Even when we pray, we go back and begin ruminating and dwelling on the problem. As we dwell on the problem, our spirit feels discouraged and our soul is caught between standing in faith and "doing it all by self" because God is taking too long. We think too much about how we can fix the problem, forgetting we have a Father who promises to give us "good gifts" and takes care of His children. We forget the Lord's promises because we stop trusting [trust is waiting and hoping] the King of our Kingdom, and we start trusting the world's ways.

Question for thought: "What has the Lord told me to do and have I done it by faith?"

Instead of directing our hearts towards how or where we think we must be, know, feel, and do, maybe it is time we allow the Lord to direct our hearts… even when we have the temptation to jump in and take control. Honestly, sometimes, it is better for us to allow what is "falling apart to fall apart" than trying to keep all in balance.

God knows what we need better than we could ever imagine or create. If you need stillness, know that, thats what He will whisper to your heart over and over again. If you need to hear the uncomfortable truth [maybe there's laziness, drifting, slacking, apathy, idolatry etc], what God reveals might sting, but thats where He wants you to be; see the truth, acknowledge, confess, repent.

Instead of directing our hearts to seek our own 'kingdoms', we must give the Lord the entire room [making room is a great start but some of us need to simply give up the whole room to the Lord immediately] and start directing our hearts to seek His Kingdom first. We may even find God's righteousness too hard a choice or not "strategic" enough; thus, we become passive in our belief and participation in His will, His ways, and even His works.

Anytime we worry, we must ask: "Whose Kingdom am I building?" "Is what I am thinking a healthy food for my thoughts, a healthy word for my spirit?" "What am I feeding my spirit and soul in this season?"

Let us begin each day with thoughts that draw our hearts in true adoration, affirmation and agreement about who we are and whose and where we belong:

"Dear Lord, you are my FatherI belong to you and your KingdomI am valued and worthyI am building your KingdomMy treasure is in Your KingdomYou have my heartI trust you, LordI will not fear nor worry." In Jesus' Name, Amen!

I pray we listen and lean into the pace of the Lord this week. Wishing you a pleasant and lovely weekend! Be good, be godly.

With love,
